Canine Friendly Corporate Housing
Barking Stress Busters!
Studies have proven that the benefits of owning a dog have a positive effect on both your physical and mental health. Many companies globally now offer the use of therapy dogs to alleviate stress. Just petting and stroking a dog can increase your levels of oxytocin (a stress reducing hormone) relieving pressure and improving focus and productivity as a result.
Canine Talent Attraction
Companies are now finding that dogs in the workplace are not only improving employee wellness, they are also attracting talent with new candidates often enquiring about pet policies. From my experience as a Recruiter, I am seeing pet policies increasingly included within company benefits schemes (including ‘pawternity leave’ for employees welcoming new puppies to their homes).
A Growing Trend
These pet policies are proving to be surprisingly effective and a great selling point to fill vacant positions. According to Glassdoor, a staggering 82% of employees feel they have a greater loyalty to their company as a result of pet friendly policies. This being the case I predict that the presence of dogs in the workplace is only set to rise (hooray)!
Doggie Business Travel
The next hurdle that dog owners must overcome is travelling with their 4-legged friend on business... and where to stay! Corporate Housing and Serviced Apartment providers have welcomed the new trend of bringing your dog to work and developed policies to include your whole family in the transition into a new location – including your furry friend.
Having a dog can often fill the void of loneliness that can be experienced by an employee on assignment or during business trips. Many Corporate Housing and Serviced Apartment providers will make sure that all the “creature comforts” are available for your pet: water bowl, food scoop, placemat and blanket. Providers are also putting in place rules and regulations which include insurance and deposits focused around the presence of pets:
- Limitations are usually put in place with just one dog being allowed per property
- Security fees and deposits are to be expected (and are usually incorporated into your deposit). This will cover any damage that could be created by a playful pooch, after all accidents do happen!
Many Corporate Housing and Serviced Apartment providers can also help you with the care of your canine best friend, providing recommendations for dog walkers and sitters as well as pet friendly restaurants and pubs. Some even offer onsite groomers for more pampered pooches! This being the case it seems that frequent business travel may no longer present such a barrier to owning a dog...
